Local Cary Expertise
Cary splits between 1980s-90s master-planned neighborhoods and West Cary new construction. We install laminate differently in each, because the subfloors are different.
Most Cary Rooms in 1-2 Days
Floating laminate goes down fast. Most single-level Cary projects finish in one to two days, including furniture moves and trim work.
Brands Built for NC Humidity
We install Mohawk, Shaw, Mannington, Palmetto Road and Azalea Lane laminate rated for the humidity swings Wake County puts a floor through.
Laminate Floor Installers Serving Cary and Western Wake County
Artisan Flooring of NC has installed floors across the Triangle since 2003. Owner Dale Keith spent nearly two decades on custom home builder work before opening to homeowners directly in late 2022 – which is why our crews are as at home in a new Cary Park build as in a 1991 Preston resale.
Wood laminate gives you the look of oak or hickory at a fraction of hardwood pricing, with a wear layer that handles dogs and kids better than real wood does. Every Cary install starts with moisture readings and a flatness check.
We cover all of Cary – Preston, Lochmere, MacGregor Downs, Amberly, Cary Park, Carpenter Village, Regency Park, Weatherstone and Downtown Cary – plus the 27519 corridor toward NC-540.
Types of Wood Laminate We Install in Cary Homes
Laminate is not one product. The right core and wear layer depend on the room, the subfloor under it, and how much traffic it takes.
Direct Pressure Laminate (DPL)
High Pressure Laminate (HPL)
Engineered Laminate
Water Resistant Laminate
Textured/Embossed Laminate
What We Know About Installing Laminate in Cary Homes
Cary is not one housing market. The subfloor under your feet tells us more about how the install will go than the square footage does.
Preston and Lochmere Are on Their Second Floor Covering
Preston’s 35 subdivisions were built mostly between 1988 and 2001, and Lochmere’s two dozen sections date to the mid-1980s and 1990s. The original builder carpet and glue-down oak in those homes is now 25-35 years old. Laminate is the most common replacement we install there, and the work usually starts with pulling tack strip and grinding down old adhesive ridges.
Vented Crawl Spaces and Wake County Clay
Most Cary homes built before the 2000s sit on vented crawl spaces over slow-draining clay. When crawl space humidity runs above 60 percent, that moisture moves up through the subfloor and into a floating floor. We take moisture meter readings on the subfloor before anything is delivered, and we will tell you if the crawl space needs attention first.
Slab-on-Grade Builds in West Cary
Newer construction along the NC-540 corridor and in parts of Cary Park and Amberly sits on slab. Concrete stays porous whatever the age, so slab installs get a 6-mil vapour retarder or a pad with an integrated moisture barrier – never underlayment alone.
HOA Architectural Rules and Upstairs Townhome Units
Preston runs a single HOA across all 35 subdivisions, and Amberly, Lochmere and Carpenter Village all have active associations. Townhome and condo boards in Cary frequently set a minimum sound-rating requirement for hard-surface flooring on upper levels. Send us your covenants and we will spec an underlayment that meets them before order.
Why Cary Homeowners Choose Artisan Flooring of NC
The Showroom Comes to Cary
Dale Keith has run a mobile showroom for over 20 years. You compare samples in your own Cary living room, under your own windows - not under warehouse fluorescents.
We Started with Cary's Builders
Artisan worked custom home builders exclusively for nearly 20 years before serving homeowners directly. That is where our subfloor prep standards come from.
Moisture Testing Before Anything Ships
Wake County crawl spaces and slabs both move moisture. Every Cary job gets readings first, because a laminate floor that cups is a subfloor problem, not a product problem.

Wood Laminate Flooring in Cary - Common Questions
No. The Town of Cary specifically exempts replacement of non-structural cosmetic elements - floor and wall coverings, moldings and trim - from building permits. If the project also moves a wall or changes electrical, that portion does need one.
Three things drive it: square footage, product tier, and how much subfloor prep the house needs. Old adhesive in a 1990s Preston home or an out-of-flat West Cary slab both add labour. We quote after measuring, never before.
Often, yes. Laminate floats, so it can go over tile, sheet vinyl or existing hardwood if the surface is flat, sound and dry. Carpet always comes out. In Cary homes we check flatness to within roughly 3/16 inch over ten feet first.
Yes, when it is installed for the conditions. Cary is humid subtropical and most pre-2000s homes here have vented crawl spaces over clay soil. We acclimate planks indoors first, leave the correct perimeter expansion gap, and use a vapour retarder on slab. Skipping those causes peaking.
Most single-level Cary projects run one to two days including furniture moves, trim and transitions. Whole-house installs in larger Preston or MacGregor Downs homes, or jobs needing subfloor levelling, run three to four days.
For a detached home in Preston, Lochmere or Amberly, interior flooring is generally your own business. Cary townhome and condo associations are different - many set a minimum sound rating for hard surfaces above the ground floor. Share your covenants and we will match the underlayment.
